Where’s “White and Missing”?

@blackandmissing #blackandmissing

A frequently asked question is: “Where’s White and Missing”?  when seeing our group’s name. Instead of explaining it, I asked our followers on FB to answer it for us. Any one of these answers will suffice:

“My answer to that is: all over the news. Because it’s true. The white and missing IS all over the news…”

“I’d say check CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS, The Nancy Grace Show, People Magazine, cable shows, Fox News, and any other white hosted station and/or magazine.”

“Where ISN’T White and Missing?”

“The Nancy Grace Show!”

“CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN”.

“On CNN, Fox, NBC, Nightline, any other mainstream media outlet!”

“White and Missing isn’t really needed because that’s already focused on(although it includes other races,a large percentage of Black people are not included in ongoing investigations), Black people know this and most White people may not admit to this .”

“The mainstream media gives them enough attention!!!”

“Ignorance is bliss, just ignore.”

“LOOK ON BILL BOARDS, CHECK YOUR LOCAL AND NATIONAL TV STATIONS. WHERE AREN’T THEY? I WOULD LOVE TO SAY THAT ALL MISSING CHILDREN ARE GIVEN THE SPOT LIGHT BUT THAT WOULD BE A LIE….”

“Wheres white and missing? Check the news, check the television. They’re everywhere because they get all the coverage!”

“Tell them turn to ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, CNN, MSNBC, ABCDEFGHIJKLMONOP……. “

“My reason for being involved [with BAMBNF] is because about a year and a half ago, I helped get the word out for a missing young woman (yes, White) who was the former intern of a friend of mine. We got such a huge media campaign going that we attracted many missing persons groups asking how we did it. Our secret? My friend is very involved in the music business and I was involved in the political world. Basically, we had connections and we cared. And that was the key. The above question will always be a question that some will pose, and while it’s not entirely invalid, the simple facts of the matter are that it is less likely for Black adults and kids to get the same amount of news coverage as a White child or adult. Anytime a group of like minded people, who care, who can pool their connections to help those who might not have them can get together to help the voiceless, it’s a good thing. That Black kids and adults who are missing are doubly voiceless due to the color of their skin is the real travesty here. If all were equal, a group like this simply wouldn’t need to exist. And frankly, I’d prefer that, because that would mean that missing Black kids and adults would get the same amount of coverage on the news as White kids. But until that happens, this group is a necessity, and one I am incredibly proud to be part of.”

“I don’t think “we” need to justify with a response. We spend to much wasted energy justifying what we do, usually falling on deaf ears. Media coverage is deliberate and unless we are writing the papers, it will continue. “

“You should of told them to tune into any major news stations and internet sites…all those media ports are “white & missing”..just look at lisa irwin, natalie holloway, caylee anthony, etc…name one black female name that is mssing that has became a household name??….dont worry I wait……”

“I will settle this right now. I am white and live in redneckville, arkansas and it IS true that the media elongates missing white people and elongates the trials of murdered white children and even goes as far as to follow the white child’s murderer when they are acquitted of that murder. the media is all filled up with celeb drama and what all the white people are doing. i didn’t even know of Jahessye’s story until i was linked to THIS PAGE. and it is a crying shame this goes on and (referring to comment somewhere up there) I am the FIRST white to admit it, hate it AND protest against it. and i don’t agree that this argument will separate the races, i hope it will bring us all together to fight for all children rights.”

“ I am a huge fan of yours and would love to see you get more exposure on networked TV. It’s needed and an amazing work of love. That being said, there are plenty of white and non-black missing people who don’t get coverage either — the coverage typically goes to white female girls under 21 with wealthy or well-connected parents. IF you are “unattractive”, poor, high risk, etc, you are SOL. If folk want coverage for the other 99% of missing caucasian kids, they are free to make their OWN network for missing kids. The only campaign that I have seen that treats everyone the same is the ‘milk carton’ campaign.”

“Are u serious? Turn on the news. Caylee, Kyron, Baby Lisa, Haleigh. Come on now. You don’t see ANY of these black children missing on the news. If you do its rare.”

“My answer to that is…. Make one.”

“Where’s White and Missing”? On the primetime news, on the front page of the newspaper. Everywhere were missing children of color are not.”

“There are things we must learn to ignore. People like the one who made the comment is a good place to start.”

“Ask mainstream media, they’re all over that story. Why do people pretend that they believe the playing fields are level? They aren’t unfortunately so we must continue to take care of us.”

“My answer is, unfortunately white little kids get way more attention than black… Im sorry but it is true and unfair…”

“Every damn where!”

“it’s everywhere…. an easier question would be “Where isn’t White & Missing” smdh”

“That is such an ignorant comment, IMO, all that person has to do is look around, watch the news, give me a break!!! It infuriates me that black (and hispanic) children and adults get virtually NO attention. It’s the white, blue-eyed blondes that get the attention from the media. Every missing child (or adult) is just as precious to their families as the one’s on the nightly news is to their families. Sheesh! :( And, BTW, I am white!”

“We must pick our battles; responding to every negative comment only takes away energy needed for this “war” we are in. There is no need to “explain” or “answer” questions that are asked/posed only to initiate anger. Keep moving forward. I say this: “Those who say it can’t be done, should stay out of the way of those who are DOING it!”

“ALL current media outlets!!!”
